Hey goon lovers, I didn't get a chance to get a new cask recently, so i'm going to review a cask my dad had lying around: Stanley Wines Cabernet Sauvignon.
For a 4L cask it'll will set you back $11.99 at Dan Murphy's, which is pretty good for this nice cab sav. This red is much more muted in flavour, which some may prefer as red wine gets pretty intense. It has a pretty decent flavour though, and could certainly be drunk at any end of semester party! Definitley not for those looking for a sweet wine, this cabernet sauvignon is pretty tart, which is good at hiding the alcohol. If you're a fan of cab savs than this is a price point wine that will satisfy but not amaze.
Enjoy!

Hey everyone this week I will be reviewing Yalumba Classic Fruity White.
So this one is a bit more classy than your usual fruity white variety, costing $9.90 for a 2L cask at Dan Murphy's. The price is worth it though, with a much better tasting wine than regular old fruity lexia, which can get old very quickly, this wine is fresh and fruity without becoming a chore to drink after a few cups. If you want to try a new white without straying to far from the familiars, than this Yalumba Fruity White is a perfect choice to expand your goon repertoire. As far as mixing it, it's probably best just on it's own, but if you insist on mixing it, try it with soda water or lemonade, so you still taste the flavour but with some refreshing bubbles!
Enjoy!
P.S I might start posting things other than reviews like some mixing ideas or something so stay tuned.

Hey Everyone back again this week with a classic goon: Golden Oak Fruity Lexia.
Probably the most common price point cask wine for us uni students, Golden Oak costs $8.95 for a 4L cask at Dan Murphy's. Many love to hate it, but when times get tough it's a classic choice. If you've never had it before, it has a sweet taste which can get too much sometimes, with a alright not great fruity taste. An obvious mixer for this is plain old OJ, but if you're willing try it with creaming soda, which is actually pretty decent to mix with any goon. This stock standard cask wine will have you partying with your measly student budget any day.
Enjoy!

Hope everyone had a goon filled Easter Holidays and mid-semester break!
Back to reviews this week with something for those red lovers, with the De Bortoli Premium Reserve Merlot.
Price for this 2L cask is $9.99 from Dan Murphy's.
I tried this one just for a change from white wines, and it is probably one of the better tasting red wine casks I've tried. It has a pretty nice cherry taste to it, and does have a bit of an alcoholic warmth in it. Some eastern european guys at a party suggested mixing it with Coke, which I did try, and surprisingly it tastes really good! Try a 50/50 mix with it and it tastes a bit like cherry Coke if you've ever had it.
Overall if you're willing to try red wine or you're already a fan this Merlot is a good option.
Till next time...Enjoy!

Welcome to The Goon Guide!
For the first review I will be connoisseurng Sonata Estate - Soft Fruity White, just for a change from the ol' fruity lexia...
First and foremost, the price: $8.99 from Dan Murphy's for a 4L Cask.
For the price it is a pretty decent alternative from fruity lexia, especially if your looking for a lighter and less sweet goonie. Doesn't taste too bad either, has a bit of fruity flavour, but is a bit acidic, so if you mix it use a sweeter OJ because its gonna be real sour otherwise. Its an average white wine percentage of 9.5% but your not going to really notice that alcoholic taste.
Overall it is a pretty good goonie to try out if you haven't, especially considering its below the $10 line.
Enjoy!
